Martin is currently a research scientist at the Kentville Food and Horticulture Research Centre in Kentville, Nova Scotia. He obtained his PhD (1992) from the Microbiology Department at Queen’s University, and an MSc (1985) in the Department of Applied Microbiology and Food Science at the University of Saskatchewan. Prior to joining Agriculture Canada, Martin was a research scientist in the Bureau of Microbial Hazards at Health Canada. He has also completed two Post Doctoral Fellowships, the first at the Centre for Food and Animal Research (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Ottawa) and a second at Memorial University in St. John’s. His current research is focused on the response of gut associated microbial populations to prebiotics as well as other dietary interventions and the ecology of Listeria monocytogenes in food and the environment. He was recently cross-appointed to the Department of Food Science and Technology at Dalhousie University.
